Agalinis auriculata (Eared False Foxglove)

 

Jerry Smith Park, Conservation Index 10, AGAAUR 5 UPL These plants bloom starting in September. The flowers are open in the morning, but close in the afternoon.

The plants are partially parasitic on other plants. They are annuals.

 

This is a rare plant according to the center for plant conservation: "About 40-50 known occurrences, most with small populations of only 25-250 individuals (Rawinski 1990). Largest populations are found in AR, MS & MO. Recently discovered in KY (White 2001). Presumed extirpated in MI, NJ & TX. Possibly extirpated in AL, DC & WV. Typical of an annual plant species, extant populations fluctuate in number of individuals from year-to-year." The population at Jerry Smith Park is the largest in the state of Missouri.
